Graduate School of Law
Dean's message
Nurturing Creative individuals with Definitive Law Knowledge
MURAKAMI, Kazuhiro
The Graduate School of Law, different from Law School which is a professional school, nurtures researchers, and most of the graduates of our doctoral course are currently working for universities and colleges. Many graduates of the MA course are working as research professionals of law affairs in both private and public institutions. The school also has an MA course for working professionals.
The faculty is dynamic in various legal fields, and the curricula are unique with advanced subjects like Basic Law, Foreign Law, Information and Law, and Environment and Law. Each individual can decide their own schedule and concentrate their efforts to their own purpose.
Our student support system is original and outstanding, such as the exemption of tuition, scholarships, and the teaching and research assistants system. The school encourages students in the doctoral course to take the degree of course doctor. Of course, we have international exchange programs with universities in Britain, the United States, Canada, France, Germany, China and Korea.
In undergraduate and law schools, students learn various interpretations of laws and the practice of legal affairs, but in our school, these concepts are regarded as premises for academic studies.
Students undertake exploration into the legal realm through the investigation of a tiny but important fact which needs both highly precise professional knowledge and an extensive understanding of peripheral fields. You will discover the joys of investigation. At the same time, you will feel inadequate when you find that your knowledge and abilities cannot possibly cope with the difficulty of the research. This situation is the same as among members of the faculty, and, as a result, you will see that we teachers are quite willing to study side by side with students.
Since the foundation of the Meiji School of Law in 1882, we have nurtured many excellent legal researchers. We hope that many enthusiastic students will join us in our devotion to inquiry of the great realm of law together.
