Theoretical and Positive Study of Modern Corporate Administration

TAKAHASHI, Masayasu

After the Lost Decade, the Japanese economy experienced a resurgence in the steel, petrochemical, automotive and digital home appliance industries. The beginning of the financial crisis caused by the deficit of sub-prime loans and the successive world economic depression, however, brought that revival to an abrupt halt. Under these anxious conditions, the necessity of reforming Japanese firms is becoming more obvious, such as the problem of updating corporate governance, of evaluating a system adequate for Japanese business conditions, of excelling operations like kaizen, and revising the strategy for development. With regards to human resources, highly skilled specialists in personnel divisions, marketing and accountancy are a dire need.

Responding to these social demands, the school provides two courses: a research course, and a management course.

The purpose of the research course is to nurture researchers who work as members of the faculty at universities and colleges, as well as researchers at various public and private institutions and research sections of business corporations. The school opens the door for people who are intending to be administrators, sales staff, office workers or engineers in corporate firms. Students in the research course learn basic methods of investigative research from a theoretical and positive approach. The course lays emphasis on writing a Master's thesis.

The management course, though its fundamental characteristics are the same as the research course, is for those with real-life work experience. The course offers classes in the evenings from Monday through Friday, and on Saturdays for the convenience of students who work full-time.

Through theoretical analysis of their own experiences in the business world, and with a wide perspective of relative subjects, students improve and systematize their capabilities as specialists in business management.

When we think about the promotion of Japanese corporation reform, a comparative study on China and other Asian countries is necessary. Also, interdisciplinary studies are important to analyze and solve the problems of Japanese corporations. The school awaits students and adults with vision and hope to ascertain together effective solutions to problems.
